1. Introduction:

I am Jayson Don Bradley L. Leaño. I am an amateur poet. What brought me to write these poems is my love for the game of basketball. Most of my poems are based on basketball. They also serve as an inspiration for me to keep believing in my abilities to play the game.

2. Original Poem Compositions:

1. Haiku (Free form)
Draft:
I'll Hit you with with a crossover,
And when I go by you,
It's all over.
Final:
I'll hit the 3-Pointer,
Hitting that shot,
It's all over

2. Haiku (Traditional)
Draft:
The best day is now coming ,
When the nature is around,
Hearing the birds humming.
Final:
It is all frostbite,
When the ice is all around,
And it is all white.

3. Tanka(Free form)
Draft:
I spotted up,
Knocked down the 3-pointer,
In the face of the defender,
Wondering if it would go in fast,
Shot it like a game-winner,
Played it like it was my last.
Final:
Wondering if it would go in fast,
Shot it like a game-winner,
Right in the face of the defender,
I knew I could do it,
Played like it was my last.

4. Tanka(Traditional)
Draft:
Carefully I shoot,
Trying so hard to shoot it,
They all see my misses and makes,
I make this shot whatever it takes,
Swish goes the net.
Final:
Carefully I shoot,
Trying so hard to shoot it,
They all see my hands,
Let it fly with follow through,
Ball swishes,with screaming fans.

4. Short Resume:

My poems are based of basketball because it is my favorite hobby. I play and train basketball everyday whether I'm practicing my shooting, conditioning,or dribbling.I sacrifice things like going out with friends for the game of basketball.I work so hard to improve whether with my teammates, my friends or by myself.I work hard because I feel like I have more potential than anybody else because of my height, standing at 5'10,14 years old, I really feel I have more potential to be a professional basketball player than anybody else.Though many people doubt my potential, but I always believe in myself and that's what matters most. Like what Kobe Bryant said: "Everything negative - pressure, challenges - are all an opportunity for me to rise.”

5. Student's Reflective Notes:

Poetry isn’t a career, or a passion, or a form of entertainment.  It’s a lifestyle.

The importance of writing poems for me is expressing oneself through the use of words. It makes a person

reflect on his/herself, the country, or the world through writing. In poetry, we can give a message to the

readers. Each person can write about his/her feelings whether may it be happiness or loneliness. Each can

share their problems in writing poems or just saying something about nature.

6. Summary of the Portfolio:

This portfolio helps in writing poems by giving ideas to share to the readers. It helps in Giving samples and defining poems. It shows that even amateur poets can make good poems about their feelings. It also helps us to learn more about poems especially about tankas and haikus.

7. Letter to Viewers:

I hope this portfolio helps you to understand more about haikus and tankas. And express yourself and your emotions through the use of poems. I hope it helps...Take care and God bless..
